About Monica
My work explores how physical experiences can be documented and transformed into abstract representations of that experience. I am also interested in the juxtaposition of analog and digital processes to develop a personal visual language. Each image I create is the result of a deliberate exercise designed to explore how far a collection of elements can be taken, by manipulating them. My process is not linear. An image might begin by preparing actual physical surfaces with different mediums, cutting paper and scanning it or by using an image shot with my iphone.
I am also a graphic designer, I have been one for the past 20 years. I live in Vancouver, Canada, a place that is very far away from the Mexico City, where I was born and raised.
